ZnO binding Curli protein
Curli subunit CsgA modified with a ZnO binding tag to enable binding of ZnO surfaces.
This device was overexpressed in NEB 5-alpha E. coli cells. The cells were incubated on a see-saw shaker to mediate biofilm formation. ZnOH was added in different varying concentrations for mineralization assays.
We noticed a distinct change in morphology of the resulting ZnO particles when compared to the curli-free reference. Furthermore, while without biofilm the particles were easily rinsed or wiped off, the biofilm was able to firmly affix the particles to the surface it was grown on.
